Harmonic balancer
I was under my car today and noticed rubber slipping out of the balancer. Has anyone here had a similar problem? I don't know if this is caused from age or just high RPM. I guess it could be both. I just ordered a new one from summit. Supposed to be good up to 6,000 RPM.

Re: Harmonic balancer
How old is the balancer? Either way, you've very lucky you noticed it. Don't run the car again until the new one is on... When one of those goes, it isnt pretty. The outer iron ring comes off, probably towards the high end of your RPM range, so its spinning at a good 4000-6000rpm... bounces around like all hell and can put holes and dents in your hood/engine bay, not to mention ripping coolant hoses, power steering gear, oilpan.. anything it can get at.
Not to mention if its loose like that the outer ring has probably rotated and surely vibrates, putting your engine out of balance... could hurt your main bearings and caps. Might even make them go out of alignment, required an align hone. |

Wow didn't realize it would cause all those problems. Well summit says it'll be here in a couple of days so I'll park it until then. Im sure the balacer is probably the origional OEM part. The motor has got about 106XXX on the clock. So its over 10yrs old. Nothing is loose I just noticed that some rubber was bulging out of the balancer while I was underneath.
