89 tbi not responding
man. i hate havin this 305 tbi. it is almost non-responsive. i can slam the gas to the floor and maybe 3 seconds later it gets the message and the engine will slowly increase rpm. is this just a downside of the older fuel injection? when i hop in my dads car, 350 w/ 4bbl, its rediculous at the difference. (his does have tons more hp). you guys think a good cleaning of injectors, hotter coil, better cleaner or sumthing else get me some response? thanks

Re: 89 tbi not responding
If the general tune-up of the car is good and its just under-powered, you may want to try the Holley 670cfm TBI unit.. I hear good things about it

actually make sure your air filter is clean.
You will get almost zero power with that thing dirty, might also explain the poor throttle response. I'm almost positive its your air filter...........

Ive got the 305 TBI in my 89 truck so im guessing its basically the exact same engine. I had the same problem but after I replaced the coil, wires, cap and rotor it ran a bit better. I also took the thing off and cleaned it out and found that the throttle body gasket was half hanging into the left port haha. Now after I fixed that it only takes maybe 1 1/2 to 2 seconds to get going if I floor it. The injectors also clog really easy in the 305 5.0 TBI's so I put in some cheap injector cleaner stuff every time I get gas, which is like every other damn day. Your air filter is probably dirty too like he said above.

Re: 89 tbi not responding
The only difference between the holley for 305 and 350 is the injectory size, either one will work, and if you're looking to make more engine mods down the line, you'd be better off getting the one for a 350 because the 305 version won't supply enough fuel.

Re: 89 tbi not responding
thanks for the information. im probably not going to spend the money on a new intake. i need to save money for a 283 rebuild. btw its a new filter, cheap but clean. thanks for the advice guys.
btw what do you know about the need for 283. will any one buy it after i rebuild it? i can see someone wanting it for a restoration maybe. what mods have good results on a 283? im thinking about putting it in sumthin just for extra transportation. but a little power out of it would be nice too. thanks |

Re: 89 tbi not responding
I know someone who'd love to get a hold of that 283 crankshaft.

Re: 89 tbi not responding
283 crank in a 327 block makes the 302
