looking for a turbo setup for my LT1! Help
After looking at my options for when I get my LT1 motor built up, beef the tranny, select the right gears, do some suspension work along with subframe connectors etc. it seems that the turbo setups for these cars are awesome!!! They can create pretty big horsepower and have less working parts to break compared to other big gain horsepower compenent systems.
Anyone know if there is a parts list of exactly what you need? The kits are expensive and if I could just buy the turbo and maybe certain other specific needed parts, it would seem to more cost effective than going with the kit. Or if there is a very cost effective kit out there, that would be cool. Someone should put together a "turbo kit" and start selling them for less than the big boys and they could clean up on e-bay or here on this forum and others!!! Like "here is everything you need, turn-key, with specific directions, turbo kit for your Camaro/ Firebird etc, etc, for half the price." Thats a good idea!!! Help me out here peeps!! Thanks everyone!! Rondogg |

Re: looking for a turbo setup for my LT1! Help
might want to look at something like these remote mount turbos.. Not a fan of them but I hear good things
http://www.ststurbo.com/lt1_camaro_dyno or http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/inc/...l?v=1&pid=9402 Are you lookin for a single? or twin? if you choose to go a custom route, you'l need (off the top of my head) exhaust manifolds w/ a custom crossover pipe (single turbo), a turbocharger.. (Garrett T60 or even T76 perhaps?) an intercooler, fuel pump, AFRP, standalone fuel/engine managment system, (or something like a FAST pcm) bypass or blowoff valve, wastegate, All the piping, boost controller, Also, if your serious about turboing that engine, and making big power, you'l want to keep that in mind while building it.. low compression, something like 8.5:1.. Forged everything, a turbo specific cam (call up comp cams, they'l be able to help you out with that) etc. etc. There are an odd few people working on a complete turbo kit for the car, but I havent heard much about it recently.. You could run your question by the guys in the Forced induction forum? Or wait for the forced induction Guru (hypsi) to chime in and make a few suggestions

Whats a completely turbo kit?
and intercoolers are suggested to cool off the air for the turbo's specifically not needed I believe.

Thanks for all of your comments guys!! I think a twin turbo setup would be very radical and fun to play with!! Later, Rondogg

Also an intercooler is insurance. Heat causes pre deat. pre-deat= blown engine, i don't care what internals you have. Compressing air creates a TON of heat. the intercooler removes the majoriy of it. you can also run more boost with an intercooler in the system

Re: looking for a turbo setup for my LT1! Help
The STS setup doesnt require an intercooler and seems to work pretty well without it. The way it is routed acts as its own intercooer... The only thing I dont like is the mounting location. It right there under the car, when you drive in the rain it will be gettin wet...and other debri could come up and hit it. Not to mention someone could crawl under their in the middle of the night with a few wrenches and bam, there goes your turbo....
