Re: Conversion

u know i comptemplated that same thing but these guys here who know what they are talkin about alot more than i talked me right out of it...my only reason for doin it is because my dad who is quadrapledic now now how to work on older cars alot (carb) but dosent know much about all this new technology since hes been hurt for twenty years now...but why would u want to switch over anyway?? if u went w/ the same size carb as your tbi unit is your probably not gonna see too much change and if u do u will probably be sacrificing alot of the good driveability of fi, not to mention money....if all u want is to put a bigger carb on to gain power why not just get a bigger tbi unit like the ones holley offers. now i am very new to all of this but ive learned alot from these guys and this is just my opinion after all that ive learned in this forum

Re: Conversion

I can probably get a early 80's wire harness that came off a carb set up. If I can get the wire harness , ECU , Run a weiand intake and a carb , Would the only reason I fail emission will be because of the car and it's year. Or is it becuase of houw dirty it will burn ? And if it's just a co2 problem then couldn't I rul a dual cat system on a single pipe and clean it up ? Just a though. I know the carb options offer like 15 - 25% more power than TBI units , even the aftermarket set ups.Money really isn't a limit. If I don't sell this car within the next 30 days then I am going to dump another couple G's into it.

Re: Conversion

No , I have a donor engine though I can tune and tweak with. It's a old 350 2bolt. I have two carbs though I am going to use on it , Weiand carbs. Got them from a friend of my fiances mom for free , Go figure. Anywho , I was actually thinking of doing a hack job. Get the engine built , get a ecm from like a 84 - 85 that is running a carb , gab the wire harness and go from there. I would really like to just get my hands on a 69 SS.

i hate to bring up an old post. but im tired of trying to fix my tbi. and im about out of patience with the ses light. i have access to a performer manifold. and a few choices of 4bbl's. on a 89 lo3 would i need new heads to fit the performer?

how do i keep the carputer running the timing and ignition and not the intake. with emissions last thing on my mind, what do i do?
