93 escort "Anti-Theft device"

Okay here is one for you how do I disconnect my anti theft device? It looks like a cheap little one but I cannot get my car to start due to some strange malfunction.

My mechanic has replaced the starter, and all kinds of stuff I can start it by jumping the starter, but I have this strange feeling it is that little black key that I never use anyhow. I know little info but hey I am a girl and do not know much about cars.

Re: 93 escort "Anti-Theft device"

What I think is you should do is open all doors by hand then close each one by it lock then with the key go left then right in driver side door lock then open door and try to start it if it start thats your problem that snice mabye you left 1 window down then open it than it cause that problem every time it happens do that (o by the way does your car beep when it has the anti theft on)

Re: 93 escort "Anti-Theft device"

Okay the "anti-theft device" in a 93 escort is one of those 6 pin ships that you physically take out of the car when you want to use it. In my case I do not think opening and shutting the doors will help. There is no beep there is no nothing. I believe that when you remove the chip it acts as a breaker. My problem is I do not know how to divert from this breaker to get my car going.

Re: 93 escort "Anti-Theft device"

it's not an alarm (if it's like mine)...the door switches have nothing to do with it...it just prevents the car from starting until you remove the "chip"...alot of car dealers used to put 'em on all their new cars...(and some of the nicer used ones)...i've never tried to hack one before so i'm not sure if they're intigrated into the computer or just the ignition...

i dont know anything about this device, but i have a 93 escort and the facotry service manual. i had a look. it doesnt mention an antitheft device anywhere in the manual, or the electronics diagrams. therefore, i assume it is an aftermarket device, and i venture to guess that means it is not integrated with the computer. im guessing it just acts as a kill switch for the ignition somewhere along the line. i bet a mechanic could just pull a panel and follow the leads back and find out. it woudl be helpful to know what the wires in the back of this device look like.

Sounds like a starter kill switch you may try lookin under the steering wheel for something with a fuse or something that looks out of place.
