Transfer case busted to hell, please read.

Ok my transfer case busted all to hell on friday night when I did a 6k rpm drop. with the new clutch I just wanted to see how different the car is now with it.

here is the question....with a new transfer case, should I be worried about that doing it again or what? since the transfer case is a recalled item, I presume hopefully that the defect that caused the recall made it weaker than it should be or something....

gimme the scoop.

Re: Transfer case busted to hell, please read.

I am sorry about your car.
You shouldent off goten that strong of a clutch but oh well shit happens.
I think it wont be a such good i idea to do it again. I am really going to stop dropin around 6k rpm. I am not going to go ove 5k rpm.
I think if you even got the new t-case you will still busted if you keep dropin it hard.
Did you already changed your transfer case under recall or is this your first time?
Do you think Mitsubishi dealers would change the T-case for the second time?
I would think they would fix the problem so you dont have keep fixin it!!! I hope!!!!!

3si has plenty of info on teh T-case recall...I think they are supposed to fix it as many times as necessary...read up on it over there.

Re: Transfer case busted to hell, please read.

transfer case is busted all apart, and I guess the tranny is gone too, according to the shop, it needs a whole tranny.

ya, some shops don't know jack. get them to tell you exactly and specifically what is wrong/broken. dont' just take their word for it. also, a trusted mechanic is hard to find, and a 2nd opinion isn't a bad idea.

Re: Transfer case busted to hell, please read.

ok well the tranny is definitely bad. the mechanic has been working on my car for years, and is a family friend. He wouldn't lie. Overcharge maybe, but not lie.

I found a rebuilt tranny with transfer case, they only have 15,000 miles on them. $2750 for both, free shipping.

My 2nd gear synchro was going out in my tranny as well, so I get a free 2nd gear synchro fix.

For all that has happened, I'm happy for the outcome.

Re: Transfer case busted to hell, please read.

First of all Gateway i think a brand new tranny from the dealer is about $3500. If i was u go and c how much is a brand new one and if its like a $500 difference i would go with the brand new one.

Hey 6172tt how long after u changed your clutch did u have to change your flywheel, because i am gettein my clutch this friday and i was wondering how much flywheel i got left. I have 69500 miles on my car so how much do u guys think i got left on my flywheel?
How do u know u need a flywheel?

Re: Transfer case busted to hell, please read.

this is rebuilt, damn near new (15k miles on it) and the transfer case is included, and so is shipping for 2750. the cheapest I found besides that was 3500 + shipping.

also, my dad called mitsubishi today, and they are trying to tell him that because I put a performance clutch on my car, that i'm not eligible for a recall on the transfer case. what do you think?
