I have a 2002 honda Civic EX with a factory performance kit installed which pretty much means I have nicer alloy wheels, front, side, and rear ground effects ( I think that's what it's called anyway) and fancy dash trim. I recently had the windows tinted, so by the looks of my car everyone thinks it has just as many updates under the hood but really it is completely normal, only has what honda gave standard. I think it has a 1.7 L VTEC 4cyl. 127hp engine. I recently got an exhaust from a friend that I am going to have welded on ( the only thing I know about it is that it is very wide and says R1 racing sport on the side). Basically what I want to do is install some "under the hood upgrades" and stuff that will make my car somewhat decent. I don't want to create a full-blown street racer or anything. I just what the basics or the things that will make it average or respectable. I don't really want to spend a fortune either, so I am looking for some somehat inexpensive tweaks. Could anyone please tell me what they recommend I should do? I'd appreciate it!!!

Re: I want to make my car a high performance car
Quote:
Basics: Cold air intake, header, exhaust (which you already have). But your car will still be slow (but "peppy") unless you go turbo, upgrade the cam, supercharger, or nitrous. With the setup you have now you'll have low 130's hp with basic bolt-ons. I think someone should do a newbie question/answer sticky of the most asked questions. |

Re: I want to make my car a high performance car
Depends on what you go with, if you go for the generic e-bay way it will be considerably less but they won't give you as much power. Search around e-bay and google and check out different brands; find one you like and then search for the best price.

Re: I want to make my car a high performance car
i got my cold air intake of ebay for 45 dollars, and a short shifter for 20, dont feel much faster tho.
turbo setup - 2K nitrous 700-1000 camshaft 200 cam gear 80 lightened flywheel 300 lightened crank 100 you can also gut the nice new interior, remove all the sound deadener, backseats, front seats, carpeting, everything u dont need with big horse power come big responsibilty to drive safely, or to just slam the brakes when you see the cops: brembo big brake rotors stainless steel brake lines semi metallic brake pads dont forget a spoiler to keep those back tires on the ground hehe |

Re: I want to make my car a high performance car
engine work is like a bottomless pit... little cash won't get you far unfortunatly.
you could get the basics: intake, header, exhaust..maybe some plugs and wires. there are internals for n/a setup: top end(camshaft, cam gear, etc) or bottom end(pistons, rods, etc) you could peice together your own turbo(my current project ) which if you do safely will net you some very significant numbers for fairly cheap(hmt setups usually run about 800-1500 depending on hookups and ghettoness hahah)goodluck -Luke |

Re: I want to make my car a high performance car
First off yea chill out noobs. Second You have a 7th gen civic 01-04, not the best of civics. The swappable motor for our cars in the Acura Type S engine k20. Not the b18 which will have to have custom mounts, which will give you sh*t horses compared to the k series. But this will cost you a heafty penny. As for cheaper upgrades that will make your car sound better are the intake, headers, exhaust, high flow cat, cam gear, regring cam. These wont make your car to much faster but it will help out and wont break your wallet. As for more performance you can throw a turbo on there. There arent many comapny producing 7th gen turbos yet, but they will get you around the 180-190whp with booting at 8psi. This will run you 3k for the set up. My suggestion is go for suspension first. Throw some spring and shocks on the car, sway bars, tie bars this will make you car much more enjoyable to drive. The best web site to look around and read about the 7th gen civs would be 7thgencivic.com.
