low power output with turbo setup
I recently installed a custom turbo system on my stock H22a1 but I am convinced my car had more power at higher rpms (5000+) as normally aspirated than with the turbo. I hit full boost(8psi) @ 3000rpms and the car pulls pretty good to just about 5000. Then the power/torque stops rising, and there is a gradual climb to redline. Evenwith this lack of power the boost does not fall much. I first thought it was lack of fuel, and installed additional injectors and controller but this did not help much.
I use a turbonetics t3/t4 turbo (housing's a/r uncertain) I it possible that the turbine housing could be restricting the exhaust flow too much?

You read 8psi and think you're not getting as much power as you were at zero boost!?!? Something is seriously wrong.
Where do you have VTEC engagement? Do you have an A/F gauge? Have you read your plugs after a high-RPM run? Anybody have a dyno & wideband O2 sensor you can get to?

you might have a too small of a turbine housing for your motor size....
maybe it's a .48 a/r way too small...you know the size of the wheel? try a .63 a/r housing...you can buy it from turbonetics or garret. If you need one, let me know, I can get brand new garret sh*t for cheap... |

Yeah somethings wrong. Unless its horribly too small of a turbo, in which case you wouldn't be making boost in the high end, won't loose power over NA. I think I would hit a dyno and do some tuning.

Re: Turbonetics t3/t4/ turbo size on H22A
Does a stage 3 turbine provide more free flow of exhaust than the lower stages, or is it the other way around. Is .57 trim compressor reasonabe size size for this engine.

Re: Your questions for original post.
Where do you have VTEC engagement? = Tried many points from 5000 - 7000 Do you have an A/F gauge? = Yes -normally stays @ high abmber & mid green Have you read your plugs after a high-RPM run? = very dark brown colour Anybody have a dyno & wideband O2 sensor you can get to? = No- Closest one is a few hundred miles overseas.

a .57 trim compressor is fine for that motor, what I'm concerned about with that turbo is that the turbine housing is too small... |
