gear selector indicator not working
i have a 1995 blazer LS.
recently the gear selector indicator in the dash started displaying incorrectly. it is always off by one. when im in N, it says R, when im in D, it says N, etc.... i tore apart the dash only to find that even the gear indicator is electronically controlled. i found the switch on the side of the trans and it looks OK, but who knows. just wondering if anyone has an answer for this situation. thanks matt |

Re: Re: gear selector indicator not working
I have just replaced the transmission on my '95 s-10. The gear selector works now. Dont know what the tranny shop did, but maybe tightened something up.

Re: gear selector indicator not working
I have the book for an 02 blazer and it has the same type of gear selector indicator. This is what I've been able to find.
PRNDL Display The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) displays the selected gear position as determined by the PCM. (Powertrain Control Module) The IPC recieves a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL displays blank if: -The PCM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit. -The IPC recieves a class 2 message indicating the park position and the column park switch indicates a position other than park (open input) -The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the with the PCM. That's all it says,I don't think this explains why it would be off by one but should give some indication as to how it works. |

His was displaying incorretly. The reason why it works now is that the gear selector is controlled by the switch on the transmission. When they put the transmission back in they adjusted the TV cable (well shift cable but it looks like a big assed tv cable) that goes to the switch. It's a 30 second procedure.

You don't have a cable on the tranny for that... You actually have a little metal loop wire with a clip that clips on to the shifter bowl.... Check it, the clip probably just fell off, simply re-attach it...
