I dont know that one either, a lot of people here and on 3si say to drop the clutch at anywhere above 5grand and have a lil all wheel chirp of the tires and have an instant take off, but im to afriad to do that, and I have a heavy duty clutch, im afraid ill hurt my drive train doing that, cause that sounds just to hard core of a drop to me. And a lot of people say slip the clutch at around 3grand and let it grab then slam the accelerator as you start to feel the car move forward and let out the clutch faster as you do. Thats what I do since i dont feel like breaking anything. lol. Also, with TT's and AWD, we beat anything to 60 mph on the road anyway, so just get into first, hit about 7100 rpms, slam 2nd, should feel a nice chirp, i do, all the wheels sound off, SOOOOOO GOOD, lol, and your gone. Have fun, if you feel brave enough to try the drop at 5+rpms, let me know mang.

i rev to 6grand and drop. why you ask, cause 6 grand is were the most of the power is, thats where you make the 320hp the strongest point of the rpms. before i wouldn't tell you guys i do this you might think i'm crazy ,but i found proof that it works besides droping it in every other rpm and not getting the best launch, at least not better than a 6 grand dump. these guys managed to get a 13.4 which is better than average buy doing the same thing i do

Putting the power to the pavement is the name of the acceleration game. The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 has 320 hp, much less than the Jag and Lightning, and the same power rating as the Mustang Cobra. So what gives the Mitsubishi the advantage over them? Traction.

This is the only all-wheel-drive car in this test. That means no wheelspin. Launching the Mitsubishi is so simple, it's like flying into outer space - even a monkey can do it. Just tach up the DOHC twin-turbocharged V6 up near its 6000 rpm power peak and drop that clutch. Granted, this isn't the best thing for the car's durability, but it sure gets this 2+2 off the line like a slingshot. All four 18-in. tires dig in, the 3000GT squats like Mike Piazza, and you are gone.

Don't expect any rubber when you throw gears, either. Tire slip in this car is harder to come by than a date with Pamela Anderson. Shifter action and clutch takeup could be a bit smoother, so quick gear changes aren't easy. But the V6's surprising amount of low-end torque really gets the heavy Mitsubishi going. And the motor pulls right up to its 7000 rpm redline.

One thing missing from the Mitsubishi's stellar performance: the right sounds. Its hair dryer exhaust note just doesn't cut it.

well revving it up to 6 grand and letting it drop is the fastest way of taking off.

its not the best thing for the cars durability but if you just do it every now and then then it shouldnt be a problem. its just the repeated stress of it will eventually cause problems.

If I'm at the track...I dump the clutch at 5000-5500, if I am just racing on the street, I slip it at 3000, you will take pretty much any car out on the street, so there isn't really a need to use all of that tranny bustin power.

That is a little back-asswards. The track should be hooking up WAY better than untreated asphalt.

Not really, I just said if I'm at the track, I launch hard, if I'm just cruising and a car pulls up for a race from a light, I take it easier on the launch...I don't lauch at 5000+ rpms everyday, just a few times...I fail to see how that is backwards. Some prefer slipping the clutch, some prefer dumping it. I do what works for me

how is it backwards, and not all awd cars launch the same, the vr4 is a diff launch then a wrx

The only difference is in the diff setup. Keep on dumping your clutches.

Edit: Feel free to tell me how track launches and launces at a stoplight are the same, as that is the ONLY comparison I made. Where you got WRX from, only you know.

I am talking about that being a backwards strategy due to the way a track hooks up (or should). More traction and a clutch dump can do not-so-pleasant things to an AWD system.

All of these points could have been attained using reading comprehension.

lol your a funny guy . the vr4 hooks up just fine track or street, regardless where you do it its bad for the tranny, but a 5500 rpm launch is gonna get you your best time regardless of how you say it hooks up
