Unhappy engine chatter at certain rpm range

Hi all. I have a 95 truck with a 22RE engine. There is chatter between 1700-2250 rpm. It goes away at higher and lower rpm. I replaced plugs and distributor cap/rotor for good measure, but didn't think that would fix it. Sure enough, still there. Can anyone give me ideas on what might be the cause? I'd really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

colo truck,

I had that same problem in two of my trucks with a 22re motor. It turned out to be the timing chain slapping the front cover, over time this can chatter and break things off inside. Have a mechanic check for slop in the chain.

Rpm

Keeping your revs above 2300 rpm should solve your problem.

Just kidding. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Have you checked the exhaust shields to see if any are loose or bent? These sometimes rattle at specific rpm induced frequencies.
