New to the BMW world.
Okay everyone. I'm new to the BMW world. About 6 mos. ago I test drove a 2001 540i. I had never even sat in one, nevermind drove one. AMAZING. I INSTANTLY became a BMW fan. Since that day, I have coveted every BMW I saw. Well, this weekend I am going to purchase my first BMW. To be in the price range I needed to stay in, I'm going to buy a 1994 540i with 107,000 miles. I'm going to pay $7,750 for it. It is in very good condition. I'm so excited I can hardly wait.
I guess I'm just looking for input on things I should be aware of or ask the person I'm buying it from before I make the final purchase. Any suggestions or information about this car would be very appriciated! BTW, the VIN# is WBAHE6320RGF28534 if that matters to anyone. Thanks! |

Congrats on seeing the light. Bimmers rule all.
As far as your purchase goes, make sure to get a Carfax report on that VIN number to check if its been in accidents, repairs, etc. Get all previous paperwork and a good idea of what maintenance has been done. Like when was the last time the brakes were replaced, did the owner get the oil changed every 4k miles. I'm not sure if this 5er has a timing belt or chain, but if its a belt, find out if it was changed every 50k miles. Things to check on the body: look around the bottom of the car and all joints for signs of significant body rust, look at the hinges inside the doors and hood and trunk to see if the paint is the same shade everywhere (often times if there's been a major accident, a repainted body panel won't match the paint inside near the hinges). And as always, take the car to a mechanic to have it checked out. But you probably knew all that. Good luck!
