1997 Taurus no radio after blower replaced
on the road yesterday blower quit. Sears in Sioux City IA replaced the blower. After leaving, discovered radio and radio panel lights not working. brought it back and 2 mechanics puzzled for an hour with no solution. They traced good power all the way up to behind the radio. They swear that nothing they did could have caused this. We had to leave. Now I want to bring it to Sears in my town for a fix. Also we discovered that selecting either defrost or defrost/floor setting caused chilly air, even with temp selector on high heat. All the fan levels are working.
Any clues I can give the Sears folks here? maybe a plug not reconnected? a bumped connection? some anti-theft protocol violated? the neutral safety switch (which I believe was replaced some years ago - maybe not)? I attached an image I found on the web that looks like ours. |

Re: 1997 Taurus no radio after blower replaced
Ask the obvious. Has anyone checked the fuses? Nothing to do with anti-theft, neutral safety switch. If anti-theft, display would still be illuminated. Guessing they knocked a plug loose or blew a fuse doing the blower motor.

Re: 1997 Taurus no radio after blower replaced
they said they traced good power right up to the back of the radio control panel (ICP?) but the radio just won't turn on and the clock is not displaying, etc. They had that panel out and showed me a slight corrosion patina on the back side of a circuit board and were convinced that the corrosion decided to play its hand at the wrong time (a coincidence). Could there be a fuse that got blown within the radio/ICP unit?

Re: 1997 Taurus no radio after blower replaced
There's really not much chance that they could have blown a fuse for the radio / Integrated Control Panel (ICP) when replacing a the blower motor, unless they took out a lot more than necessary to replace the blower. There are no fuses in common between the climate control and blower motor according to the factory service manual.
Have you noticed if there is anything else that doesn't work which might give a clue as to the issue, such as interior illumination that doesn't work? The fuses you'll want to look at for the ICP not working would be located in the Instrument Panel Fuse Panel, fuses 8, 12, 20, 24, and 32 - all 5A rating. -Rod |
