Clear headlight housings

I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the aftermarket clear headlights like these

http://www.ilovebodykits.com/product...ht_Chrome.html

I bought a set off ebay a while back and theyve been fine, at least I thought so. I recently moved away from the always lit up city into a kinda rural area and now I've finally noticed, my lights suck. Theyre not very bright, and it seems like its just a straight beam, the light doesnt really diffuse and light up to the sides. At first I thought it might be because the lights dont have that grid pattern on the outside, but I noticed they do have a reflector thing built into them, so I'm starting to think maybe its just my bulbs going out.

Anybody else have these lights? Is it just the way they are? Or is it probably just my bulbs dying?

On another note, if it is my bulbs, what do you guys think of the HID conversion kits on ebay? Like I said, I live in a kinda rural area, the extra light output would be a HUGE help to me out here. I know a big issue is them blinding oncoming cars, can they be adjusted to minimize that? And its not like I see a lot of other cars anyways, I pass maybe a couple cars a day.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Re: Clear headlight housings

One of my bulbs died, so I bought the HID kit. Works really well actually, the top cutoff is decent so I'm not blinding other people.

Its noticeably brighter but the beam effect still remains mostly, I think the housings are just poorly designed. I'm going to try to grab a cheap OEM housing from the junkyard to verify, but I have a feeling I'm going to end up swapping these clear ones back to OEM.
