I have this annoying over heating problem with my 1990 735 iL.I replaced the leaking water pump, fan clutch, thermostat and all the drive belts. Bleeding the coolant helps to maintain the heat gauge needle right in the middle for some time and overheat again.Could any one help?:o

you still can try couple things: first check radiator, it might be pluged and second is radiator cap. it doesn't keep preasure so you lose antifreeze and engine overheats.

Re: 1990 735IL coolant temp problem
Must be simple.... you might not have the proper coolant antifreeze, or mixed, or too much water. Flush your sistem like two times, then replace for the original BMW antifreeze or just green... NOT ORANGE....!, use the car for a few miles and flush again..... Let me know if that works |

Re: 1990 735IL coolant temp problem
After bleeding how long until it overheats again? Have you ever let it overheat really badly? I hate to say this but, if the system continues to need to be bled either your not bleeding it right or you have a blown head gasket.
