Any particular details you'd like us to try and get photos of? I was aiming to get a clear shot of the chassis plate and interior for example.

The blue rope (which cordons off the car from Joe Public) is also too close to the car to allow any reasonable photos, although I've taken a few which I'll try and host shortly. I can confirm that the car on show is the original race winner, as I have managed to take photos of the Le Mans scrutineering stickers attached to the roll cage upright, clearly visible from the right hand side of the car ! |

BENTLEYBOYZ - welcome to the club.
![]() Nothing specific that I can really think of beyond the chassis plate which I assume will be mission impossible. There's a lot of detail on the car since it still wears the full livery, so as much as possible on that would be nice. Some more close-ups of the additional nose piece lighting unit from multiple angles would be cool since that part was unique to this GTR. I'm sure that the chassis plate is obscured by the belts being laid back over it, but (curiously enough) the car wasn't being baby sat by any McLaren personnel, so perhaps a quiet word with the staff at the main desk of the "Celebration of Le Mans" display may elicit the opening of a door and repositioning of the belts to expose the chasis plate ? If you don't ask, you don't get ! I'm uploading all the Ueno Clinic photos (43 in total) to a webshots album and (with luck and a fair wind !) I hope to post the link shortly. I've got ones without and with flash, that show up the relective graphics nicely; I hope you'll be tolerant of the amateur nature of them ? They guy manning the desk told me (as they threw me out @ closing time !) that the car had been in storage near Guildford, Surrey at a McLaren facility for quite a period of time, and I can concur that it was starting to show its age ! |

Re: GTR 01R To be displayed at ASI ??
Hi there,
There are quite a few pictures from the Autosport show in the following link: - http://www.mdh-photography.co.uk/2007gallery.htm Just click where it says "Autosport International -11/01/2007" These pictures were taken by the well known motorsport photographer Mike Hoyer. He has some shots of the Mclaren (from memory page 4 has most of them on). I will be at the show tomorrow so will see what pics I can get. Regards Tim |

Here's the link to my photos from Thursday's trade day @ Autosport International 2007:http://rides.webshots.com/album/556978076zgRVWs
It's the first time I've hosted any photos so I'd value any constructive comments. BTW I've not adjusted the photos except to orientate them ! Enjoy ! |

Re: GTR 01R To be displayed at ASI ??
Thanks for all the great photos. Much appreciated.
When you say the car was starting to show its age, what do you mean? McLaren keeps its cars immaculate, I thought, and from the pictures this car looks good. What looked old/worn? |

This was the first close-up view I had of the Ueno Clinic car and little things like the colour of the anodising on the door release buttons and wheel nuts wasn't quite as bright as you'd see on a new vehicle; likewise the scrutineering sticker's details (handwritten in at the pre-qualifying ?) were virtually lost, a consequence of either over-zealous cleaning or perhaps handling of the car (during loading/unloading ?) I guess. The paintwork on the car showed the swirly scratches (usually associated with regular polishing by cleaners) which is visible on the drivers' names photos, although the white scotchlite (reflective) Ueno Clinic and other vinyl logos still shone well , as can be seen on the flash photos. All in all, when compared with the corresponding Audi R8 from a few Le mans ago (which looked brand new out of the box) it looked a real vintage racer ! |

Re: GTR 01R To be displayed at ASI ??
^^ I suppose as we are so used to seeing pristine examples of F1's that all look 'factory fresh' (there is a story that when a female (
) F1 owner takes her car back for a service, every nut, bolt, screw etc that has been touched by an F1 mechanic gets replaced, so the car really is 'as new') the Ueno car does look a bit tatty. It could also have something to do with the way its displayed in the TechCentre at Woking (though hopefully they use special glass to reduce the effects of the sun on the paintwork)Mind you, I believe Mclaren are doing the right thing (at this moment in time). You hear stories of Ferrari 250 GTO's with a racing heritage getting a complete overhaul to make it look as good as new, but this takes away the racing bangs, scrapes and marks that makes the GTO have the aura around it. I hope Mclaren keep #01R as it was when it won at Le Mans, and dont take away its marks and scrapes

Re: GTR 01R To be displayed at ASI ??
I must concur, a racer that is pristine and as new looks so wrong, more so one that has historic interest and history.
I respect our Mr Bridger imensley but still believe his 16R should have kept it's Fina livery, but realisticaly he paid his money and it is his choice to have his car exactly how he wants it. We are just very lucky he is willing to share so much with us. |

What Im surprised about is that McLaren are justifyably proud of their racing heritage. Pictures taken at the official opening of the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) show virtually every McLaren race car ever on display. Even including the Goodwood Soapbox racer (Also a McLaren Cars Project) ![]() But come foward a few years and 01R is gone and XP5 and XPLM1 are repositioned. ![]() So I would imagine the current owner is not McLaren at all and as a result the car is only availiable to them for major events. Which might explain why there was no "official McLaren" publicity regardng this car being on display. On that note. Without seeing a Chassis plate, how could I tell if the car at ASI is ACTUALLY 01R and not another car? I dont beleive that the seatbelt just "happened" to be obscuring it.
