though it's really hard to narrow it down here are the top 5 in declining order (5 low 1 high)

5.) Escaflowne (Good story line.. I love almost all of Hajime Yadate's work but the ending sucked... decent movie)
4.) His and Her Circumstance (Kind've a chick thing.. my girlfriend wanted me to buy it for her so I did.. I ended up watching it and it's not that bad... Done by Gainx (producers of Evangelion) and the actual writer of Evangelion... it's a high school romance though... )
3.) Serial Experiments LAIN (I reccomend this series to EVERYONE.. it's such a mind fuck... trust me when I say watch this series.)
2.) Neon Genesis Evangelion (classic... nothing else to say.. you're not a true anime fan unless you've seen this series and the movies)
1.) Cowboy BeBop (I'm a huge fan of Vicious.. my favorite villain.)

Others that should've been on the list:
Trigun
Tenchi Muyo
FLCL
Grave of the Fireflies
Armitage
Princess Mononoke
Green Legend Ran
Ninja Scroll
ok once again too many to list... peace

The best for sure

1) .HACK//Sign - Sorry I am a computer geek
2) Rurouni Kenshin & Samurai X
3) DB, DBZ & DBGT
4) Yu Yu Hakusho
5) Inyuasha

This is basically all I have seen, but I have seen Akira and I was not impressed with the story. Just Me.

Re: The best for sure

Quite interesting that no one has mentioned Full Metal Panic. Has anyone seen the series?.... its UNDOUBTLY one of THE BEST series i've ever seen. I don't think i can name my top 5... but here's a few that i've grown to love

Full Metal Panic
Cowboy Bebop
Initial D
Hellsing
Onegai Teacher
Noir
Great Teacher Onizuka

As of right now i'm watching Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, Full Metal Alchemist, Onegai Twins, Piano, Gunslinger Girl, and Da Capo. Onegai Twins just finished, and i must say that the ending is quite anti-climactic... i'm just waiting for an awesome OVA now.

if its movies and series then...

1.Akira
2.Tri-Gun
3.Ghost In the Shell
4.Cowboy Bebop
5.Inital D

you know, all the usuals. I've seen alot of movies, but half of them i dont remember names of. That kind of stuff only gets played really late on TV where I live. Kudos to Cartoon Network tho for having anime every night.

Byt he way, there was a show on Cartoon Network a few nights ago called something Blue, not sure what. If anyone know the name of it let me know, it looked really good for the 10 or so minutes i saw.

Trigun (sincere and funny)
Cowboy Bebop (oozes cool, musically flawless...)
NGE (still digesting this...haven't quite got it...but I love the Eva's)
Akira (for being made around when I was born, the animation kick @ss!)
FLCL (visually stunning, just awe inspiring.)

These are the ones I find myself watching most often. That's why I put them there...not neccessarily my favs though.

There's tons more but in different categories in my head.
Coolest Classic: Fist of the North Star, Best Racing: Wangan Midnight, "Watched more episodes than any other because of my girlfriend" Ranma 1/2, etc....

It might be Blue Sub 6, i know they showed that once. There's also Perfect Blue, that's more of a psychological anime though...

Re: List your top 5 Anime

Add a couple more.
Please Teacher - Great but leaves a little feeling of emptiness. OAV leaves much to be desired.
Video Girl Ai - Very sad story. Takes a few episodes to get into, and the end may make you sick to your stomach. Not top 5 but worth mentioning.
