so o2 senosr is coolant temp sensor or is it different one?? my rodeo having the same probalem from where i see you say, black smoke and blah. my shop say it need new coolant temp sensor. and from where you say about it have no socket, so you use 2mm open end wrench. mine did have the same thing and i use my 22mm open end wrench and man it WONT loose up. and correct me if i am wrong, 02 sensor is under the manifold right or on the head muffler????? help please. also one more thing before you fix them did your motor shake too???

The voltage changes were smooth when I revved the engine and within the normal range of 1 to 4.5 volts. While I was at the dealer yesterday, the mechanic said all of my sensors checked out fine. Even so, I will keep the MAP sensor in mind. Basically, the dealer says the surging (see below for description) in neutral is normal. He said something about the computer on the 1995.5 is slow to adjust to engine changes under no load conditions. Since I don't notice any surgine while driving, I shouldn't worry about it. I told him that the torque converter may be "sucking up" the RPM changes so I don't feel it while driving. I think the dealer is unwilling / unable to diagnose the problem and they wanted me out of the service department. It doesn't seem right to me for the engine to do this. Is there anyone out there willing to do a quick test on their 1995.5 Rodeo for me? This is what the engine does: While in neutral or park, rev the engine to 2000 RPM and hold the throttle at that position. Do the RPMs hold steady? Or, will the RPMs drop to 1700 - 1800 then back up again. The cycle is like clockwork; up and down, up and down. The surging is less noticeable while the engine is cold and more pronounced when it is warm. Dale |

The O2 sensor and the coolant temperature sensors are two different parts. The oxygen sensor(s) are installed in the exhaust pipe and the coolant sensor is in the pipe behind the block on the 3.2L V6. Do a search in this forum, there was someone else who needed to change the coolant sensor and I provided a photo of its mounting location. Good luck changing it. Use a good penetrating spray on the oxygen sensor and let it soak in for a few hours. Warm up the engine, it may help as well. Mine came out easily. On my Rodeo, a new oxygen sensor fixed the black smoke problem. As I recall, the engine did not shake. Dale |

my motor is 2.6L, and it does shaking right after warm up. i might need to change my 02 sensor, i did not think about that. also other thing when my egr valve start suck in that is when it start shaking and when i take egr valve hose to vaccums off it will run smooth. i install new egr valve and still does the same thing. so any idea what the problem??? also i forgot to mention one more thing as when the black smoke come out of muffler, the black smoke does come out of spark plug too?!?!? i had no idea what wrong! any help will be gratefully.
