Re: Ferrari Expo 2011

Sweet!!! Those decals came out awesome!!! Nice job with that Starter 550 too... I usually prefer the BBR 550's because I like their shape better. Your body work made a great improvement and has me taking a 2nd look at the Starter 550's I have. Hope to see you at the expo

I am also finishing the Breadvan and 2 or 3 other Pan am cars.

Re: Ferrari Expo 2011

The Starter kit does have some problems but can be worked over to look good. I hope you make it Joe. Your models will be great to see in person.

More updates coming this week. Its only a few weeks away. I hope you all are getting your projects completed

Re: Ferrari Expo 2011

Here is a photo of the Carrera Panamericana cars I am doing in 1/43rd and 1/24th scale. The 356's are from the Scale Designs SD38 sheet. I should have 1 more Pan Am car done for the show for a total of 4.

Congratulations again Tom. They look great!

Now...what could there be in "the oven" as number 4 subject?

That you for your kind words. The 4th is a Ferrari.

Re: Ferrari Expo 2011

I love that blue cab. I have pics of that car with both blue and white engine lids. Did they run that car 2 years or was that a mid race swap???
I'm working on a Bosica 356 that I removed the roof and added a split window windshield... It would look awesome in that livery

BTW What are the hours of the show??

Hi Joe,

As far as I can tell they tested the car before the race with the Mercedes Benz team without the car completely painted. During the race it ran as shown with white engine cover. That chassis only ran in 1952 and is the only Porsche 356 cabriolet to run in the Pan Am.

The show hours are 9AM-4PM. You can come in early as they open the doors around 8AM. Hope you bring some of your great models next Saturday. I would love to see them in person. They look amazing.

Re: Ferrari Expo 2011

I finished the 1/12th APM Ferrari 250 Breadvan. The base model was a Revell GTO with the APM body kit. Lets just say APM do great kits now but were still learning when they did this kit.

I had never even heard of APM before, please let us know if you do find out more about the story on this manufacturer.

As to your model, it just looks great!

You should not have told us it is a scale-model!...you would have fooled many of us!

That is the "magic" of such large scales, when many little things such as clear parts (glasing) wire wheels, chrome trimming and other, are naturally "brought down" to proper scale in harmony with the whole model. It just makes the models much more realistic!

The only disadvantage is, their size!

I'd really like to try and build something like this one day, it looks real!

Best to you Tom. Please keep up the good work.

I have just rec'd the APM 1/18 Ferrari599xx in kit form and the Gemballa Mig in 1/24 kit form.

Very good piece of casting in my opinion.

I rec'd an e-mail from them saying they may do a 1/24 kit of the Ferrari 599xx and the Zonda.

The website is http://www.autoplacemodel.com/main.html

regards

Jon
