89 park ave stumbles and dies
Hi, I have an 89 Park ave 3.8 with 92k miles. It starts fine then after a about 5 mins it stumbles and dies. If i give it gas when i first start it its ok, but that 5 min mark it hesitates and stops running. I changed the plugs and wires with no luck. It does start back up but keeps shutting off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 89 park ave stumbles and dies
This sounds fuel related, so that is a good place to start. When is the last time you had the fuel filter changed? Have you checked the fuel pressure with engine running?

Re: 89 park ave stumbles and dies
I agree with Bo.. First thing is to get the fuel pressure checked, see if the pressure drops suddenly and causes the stall..
as well the pressure should be 37-41 Psi for the Vin C 3800.. |

Re: 89 park ave stumbles and dies
While i was changing the fuel filter i noticed a rubber hose had rotted for what looks like a fuel vapor line that runs next to the metal fuel line. I fixed that and the cars seems to be running better. Could that have made a diff? Thanks

Re: 89 park ave stumbles and dies
Yes a huge difference.... These cars use a MAF system, if there is a Vac leak anywhere behind the MAF you can have all kinds of driveability issues..
If it was a rotted line you found then most likely that was your problem.. |
