Question 01 Bravada elec. fan swap?

Hey all. I was wondering how much it would cost me to swap out the clutch fan to an electrical fan. Also, what all am I going to need? New/different radiator or pulley for the serpentine? I'm looking to wake up the 4.3 with small, less expensive modifications as well as improve on the fuel economy. I figured if I take away the clutch fan it would help.

I also want to put a bigger Alternator on to handle the fan and all of the other accessories that are on the 01 Bravada. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks,
~JD~

Taking the fan off shouldn't change your belt situation....it'll still need to spin the water pump.
As for a fan plan, I don't know. You might google that and see what others did.

Re: 01 Bravada elec. fan swap?

Here is what I found so far. The only question I would have would be that is says that it is for '91-'99. Would this make a huge difference for putting it on an '01? I thought the '96-'01 were basically the same under the hood. Am I wrong in this assumption? And also, has anybody ever ordered from here? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...85c7ab9e&gan=1

You'll need to be sure this one will fit.
The dimensions shown is 15" wide, 13.5" high & nearly 3" thick.
Get out your tape measure.
It looks like a pretty good product with the control box and install kit.
9.5 amps is a pretty big draw, you'll need to check the voltmeter at night with the AC and maybe the windshield wipers on.

Re: 01 Bravada elec. fan swap?

Way back on this forum was a post about using a junkyard Taurus electirc fan as a replacement in the Bravada's. Couldn't find it with a quick search on AF, maybe some one has the info on it.

Re: 01 Bravada elec. fan swap?

I went out and googled it and found a few links. The best comment was from our own MT-2500: "Do not be fooled by more HP and gas mileage adds.
If your thermostatic fan is making excessive noise it is bad. Just replace it and be done with it.
If it is working right the thermostatic fan will cool the engine when it needs it and idle when it does not need cooling.
You can not beat a setup like that. For gas mileage and performance.
And Dependability.
MT-2500"

might be more posts out there, my google search turned up over 5,000 results.

#1 to remember though is that changing your load off the engine from mechanical load to electrical load is a wash, they both present the same demands on the engine in the end.
