early 80s to late 80s front clip swap
ok im thinking about buying another monte carlo i want an 80 to 85 style ls but i really can find any all i can find is the 86-88s ls's im just wondering if it would be a problem to swap the ealy 80s front clip to an late 80s (86-88) all i can think of is the wiring for the lights would be different but thats nothing major

The Montes of the 1980's basically used the same body style from '81 to '88, (the 1980 model was used from 1978 to 1980)Within the timeframe of the 4th generation some parts fit '81 to '83, '81 to'85 and some fit all the years. The body style was refreshed in 1986 or '87 and I believe those front clips will not interchange with previous years and vice versa without a lot of modifications. The fenders are slightly different as the header panel, and the supporting frame underneath also changed to be able to make the changes fit. If you can get access to a Hollander interchange manual it should be able to tell you which parts interchange with which years. I had access/ to one about 20 years ago and remember there were certain parts that would work, while others did not.
