starter problems

hello I had just recently bought a 1997 Crown Victoria LX with 33.000 miles and the starter needs to be replaced. I was wonder anyone could help me. I was wondering what is the best was to remove the starter?

Put the car on 4 jack stands. Remove the negative battery cable. Use a 1/4 drive socket set and remove the wires to the starter. Then use a 3/8 drive socket set with various size extensions and remove the bolts holding the starter in place. After the bolts are removed remove the starter. Sometimes you might need a flexible socket.

Even if you don't need them on this job if you do much work you will need them. A lot of places sell them.

Thankyou for helping. I will see what I can do this afternoon. I was just wondering, do you have experience in removing starters in a crown victoria? Is is a hard or easy job to do? I have all the tools.

I'm retired at this time it used to be easy when the car was on a lift. I remember older Crown Vic's it may have changed some but should be close.

If it is the original starter, it will have 3 bolts. The bolt on top will be hard to get to. Take your time and you can get it. The top one is in a tight place to get to. Follow rhandwor's advice also.
