Sorry it's been a while since my last update. Spent a week in Monaco and then had a house move so things have been a bit hectic! But before I moved I decided I'd coat the whole thing in some more lacquer and it all went wrong. For some reason, and I'm still not entirely sure why, I had a fine white powder appear over the surface of the model and it got worse with more lacquer. The big problem was it was in some very hard to reach spots (the suspension was absolutely caked in it). I took the kit over to my friend Stuart's place (he's registered on here but I'm afraid I can't remember your username Stu!). Anyway, he got some isopropyl out and it dissolved the white powder a treat and didn't attack the lacquer. The surface is a bit rough underneath but I figure that I can polish it up. So now it's just the brakes and wheels that need to be finished and obviously the front wing needs gluing on. In the next update I'll take some photos of my progress between the last update (sorry, kind of working backwards! - I just didn't have time because I wanted to try and get it done before Monaco but then I had the issue with the lacquer). Anyway, here's a before and after shot Oh, and I managed to knock one side of the engine cover wing off with the air hose by accident, that's why it's missing

Once again these red-bull decals look nice on these f1 cars.Great work you are doing

Well I've done a little more since my last update. Front and rear brakes and have been finished and attached, the front wing was attached and I finished the sanding the mould lines off the tyres. All that's left is to add the wheel covers, add the photo etch to the front wing and attach the windscreen plastic.






I never realised where the Bridgestone logos are respective to each other on either side of an F1 tyre until I went to Monaco. The following to pictures illustrate what I mean. One side is Bridgestone and in the same position on the inner wall is Potenza. The third picture also shows the tyre valve added to the rims








Last two pictures show the turned metal exhuast and the floor stay I added, plus the aerial that was added to the nose

Hi Elliot, the RB4 is looking pretty sweet with all the wings on. It's a shame you couldn't take it to Monaco, but I'm not sure I'd trust the airlines not to flatten it. Even you hand luggage can get pretty beat up sometimes. I think if I were going to do something like that, I'd just take the base along and get the driver to sign that and put the model on when you got home. If you get a chance it would be nice to see your RB4 and the STR you built together for a couple of pictures.

Nice work there guy very impressive !!! did you ever find out what the powder was?

Stu - Yep, it would have been completely crushed! Those photoetch parts on the front wing would have been the first to go and then the wings behind the airbox, those are definitely the most fragile parts. I might take a small piece of brass sheet to Silverstone and if I see DC I can get him to sign that. Then if I mount the model on a base I can stick the brass on somewhere
And yup, I'm sure I can do a progress thread for the STR as well. Halfway through but I'll be able to explain my lessons from this build if nothing else!

gasdriverca - I've not found out for sure but I think it's particles from the lacquer that weren't properly atomised when I airbrushed it on. The alcohol seemed to dissolve it nicely and I've since thinned the lacquer a bit more and it's been fine
