Unhappy Fuel Pump replacement

I recently replaced the fuel pump on my 99 Prizm. I replaced it with an aftermarket pump and now when you go to start it the Pump will not come on until you engage the starter for a few seconds. Prior to putting on this pump I did not have this problem. Sometimes it takes about 10 seconds to start. I thought as soon as you turned the key to the start position prior to engaging the starter the pump would turn if you needed fuel. Also this pump is really loud. Any suggestions?

Re: Fuel Pump replacement

I have the same exact problem, as soon as I replaced the pump with an aftermarket, you have to crank the car to build up pressure. I have not had the time to put the original back in (which i think may still be good). As soon as I do, I'll let you know what happens....

Re: Fuel Pump replacement

Is there an access panel under the back seat for the fuel pump?

Thanks for your help,

John
