have someone watch the brake lights while you depress the brake pedal and wiggle the turn signal and or hazard switches. these older GMs had a terrible time with turn signal switches

Re: Brake lights not working

Also take a look at your brake light switch. With brake pedal depressed you should have 12 volts at white wire from switch or remove connector from switch and do a continuity test with the pedal held in the down position.

Have you checked,(according to my diagram), fuse 23 ? Or all fuses for that matter ?

Just a few thoughts

Re: Brake lights not working

Its a common problem with Luminas, I had the same problem last year, fixed it by replacing the turn signal switch.

This thread might help. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...a+light+switch

Another vote for the turn signal switch. You may get it to work better or for a while by exercising the hazard lamp switch several cycles to wipe the contacts clean. Eventually, you may be doing this:

Re: Brake lights not working

If the high-mount 3rd brake light still lights up, then the problem is the turn signal/multifunction switch, as is not wired through the M/F switch (but all the power for the left and right tail/lamp turn signal assemblies is supplied through the M/F switch). If even the 3rd brake light is inop, then the brake light switch on the pedal is most likely the culprit since all the other light functions work.
