high mileage oil

I am posting this to share my experience using castrol high mileage 10w30 in my engine. I do have a leaking cam seal, which loses about a litre a month to the ground. Seems to do in mostly when there is no vacuum, ie. at idle and when parked. I bought some of the above-mentioned oil and went for a road trip. I have made many road trips this summer. I ran the entire gallon through the engine in only two weeks. By ran through, I mean that it mostly ended up on the ground where I park.

I'm not blaming the product, just noticing that it doesn't stay in as well as the regular castrol 10w30 that i usually run in the summers. Maybe it's better for a car that burns oil?

I'd guess that the hi mile stuff has more detergents and other surfactant-type things in it, that make it less "sticky" compared to regular oils. If that's right, then it will slip through the gaps faster and be leakier.

As someone who loses an Exxon Valdez worth of oil each month, and needs to rethread his oil pan screw holes before the oil pan stops leaking, I can definitely sympathize.

The high milleage oil has some chemical compounds who in contact with the gaskets ,,swells" them helping to seal small gasket leaks the most common reason, they do not fix mechanical issues.
Also the oil has a higher ,,flash" point that being the point where the oil starts to burn.
Thats about it the rest of what you read on the quart is nothing more than marketing crap.
