One Word... B&M ... shit this thing is nearly impossible to break.
I got the Edge shifter (seen as low as 45$) works great and B&M has been making shifters for years.

cutting the top will shorten it, but not as much as lengthening the bottom. I made a custom one for my 1G by cutting the bottom off and welding it back together with a spacer. I still have it if anyone is interested.
