Re: Converting the BMW M1 Protour into a Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 LeMans
a brief update to let you know I haven't forgotten about this project. (I dunno about Ski... he's got the Lotus 7, and he seems awfully excited about the Ferrari 166...
)i've started assembling the body. the fit of the flares is, in a word, sh!te - huge gaps that needed filling with Tamiya epoxy putty from the underside and modelling putty from above. still a little work to be done there. there were also some gaps where the front end fascia joins the body; i filled those with 5-minute epoxy and will smooth them out with putty. ![]() ![]() i shaved the ferrari emblem on the trunk lid (boot lid to people on ski's side of the pond ) and the door buttons/handles. i'll use a Crazy Modeler (what a great name! ) script on the trunk. i don't see any external door buttons/handles on my reference pix but must do more research before knowing for sure ... i've also gotta open up the fuel filler, where i'll install a Replicas and Minatures of Maryland resin fuel filler cap, and open the front grill, where the molded-in faux-mesh will be replaced by MFH mesh. i've also got some white metal lights somewhere in the parts box for the numbers on the doors.here's another shot of what we're after. ![]() if anyone's got interior or suspension detail shots of the Pozzi car, i'd love to have 'em. |

Re: Converting the BMW M1 Protour into a Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 LeMans
Hah! so you're off are you?
Well that should kick me in he a$$ at least ![]() Good start. I think the M1 will also be giving me a lot of putty work (which I am not looking forward to) It's hard to tell from your photo, but it looks to me as if the car does have door handles. On the Daytona they re litte levers at the top of the door near the B-pillar. In your photo I can just about see a little chrome speck there that looks about right.... Do you have any better profile shots of teh car?

Re: Converting the BMW M1 Protour into a Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 LeMans
small update. added the chin spoiler, made the fuel filler cut-out and did some more body prep.
chin spoiler, made from three pieces of .010 styrene. i used a carpentry contour gauge to get the shape of the front fasia, transferred that to a shieet of .010 styrene and cut it out. then i glued that to another piece of styrene and used that as a template. once i had a rough shape in .020 sytrene, i folded it in half and filed it to shape so it would be symmetrical. once i was happy with the shape, i glued it to a third piece of .010 styrene, cut it to shape, sanded it and glued it to the body with CA, followed by 5 minute epoxy for strength. from the front (i also cut out the molded-in grille mesh. the shadow and angle of photo make it appear the spoiler is lopsided. it's not. ):![]() from the bottom (the small square of styrene on the fenderwell is the side of the battery; italeri figured a three-sided battery was accurate. ):![]() from the side (note the cutout for the fuel filler): ![]() the fuel filler is recessed on the 1:1 car: ![]() i cut out the fuel filler using a bit and round file, then notched it on either side with a square file. a small square of .010 styrene was then glued to the back side. next up -- more filler and sanding before laying on some primer. thanks for looking! Great progress. I have this kit in my 'to do' pile and this thread is proving to be a great how-to.
Thanks

Nice work on the chin spoiler
What's wrong with a three-sided battery?! Picky aren't you?

Body preparations look good. Nice work on the fuel filler. Now you just have to kick your mate to make this a real group build

You did ? oh no I can't believe it ! Humm well, you might take that for another joker-answer but... where to find Opel paint anywhere but... at Opel centers ?? Did you asked the color in some Opel garage or at any car paints maker ? I can't say more for the moment but will try to get a RAL code for you or something like that next time I go to my favorite car center where I worked years ago. I still have good contact with a former collegue who deals with commercials for paints items. He has already given me good informations by calling maker services... I wil try it soon. (I'm busy these days but wil try to go there before the end of the week) Phil |

![]() I tried to get it from Hiroboy.com but he wasn't able to mix the colour ![]() I also thought that hey! they maybe used the blue from the BMW logo so I found a pantone number for that too. But I haven't found a way to translate Pantone numbers into PPG codes or RAL codes. I do have Tamiya Light Blue and Tamiya French blue in reserve.
