Re: 2000 Grand Prix IGN Key removal
There is a manual key release button located next to the shifter which should help you get the key out. Many key release issues are a first sign of a system voltage problem caused by a dirty battery cable conections, a bad battery, or bad ignition switch assembly. If the key release solenoid isn't getting enough voltage, it will not allow the key to be removed. The other issue could be the solenoid itself, or if something was spilled in the console area around the shifter (if the car has a floor shift, some SE models have steering column mounted shifters) the system isn't getting a signal that the shifter is in park, causing the key to not be released.
