Re: Need to know, 2.5 to a 2.8,

Welcome to Automotive Forums

You'll have to use your 2.8L transmission as well, and possibly use your drive shaft as well.

Are you dealing with carburators (85 or older) or fuel injected?
A carburated to carburated swap shouldn't bee that hard, where fuel injection might be a hastle that you might want to re-consider.

Someone else on this forum did a carburated swap not that long ago, and I might be able to look his name up. But I can't promise that I can find his posting

Re: Need to know, 2.5 to a 2.8,

both are and were efi, but i plan to take the ecm and everything else i am more concerned with the drive shaft length and the bolt pattern on my frame to fit the 2.8 motor mounts. i do plan on switching the engine trany and drive shaft. what was your concern with the EFI, oh, both are 87's just the s10 had a iron duke and the blazer has a 2.8 v6. again thanks. neuf62

Re: Need to know, 2.5 to a 2.8,

Shouldn't be all that bad since you plan on changing the electronics needed as well.

I'll try looking up the other guy's name that made the swap later, although his was carburated. It sounded like he had worked most of the bugs out of his truck.

he's still pretty new as well and might not know how to work with PM's

Here's his thread http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...highlight=swap

Unless the 2.5L has a problem do yourself a favor and don't switch. The Iron Duke is a MUCH better motor. Better performance and better mileage.

Re: Need to know, 2.5 to a 2.8,

Just a brainwave, try looking for a Comaro or someting with a floor mounted auto shifter. I believe that they use cables for their setup, so you can probably use the existing hole.

Let me know what other ways that I can help you, just a warning I might not be around the computer much to answer e-mails much for a while

Re: Need to know, 2.5 to a 2.8,

Well for anyone who cares, the swap was easy i did swap the ECM and harness as well but the only things that were problematic was the drive shaft which i just got one from the wreckers and the tranny crossmember didn't line up so i just moved it a bolt hole and tada. the exhaust is close so i will just cut it down and stick it out the side. the shifter issue i just replaced the collum it had tilt on it too so it was a no brainer. well any questions just ask.
thanks for the info.
