Replace ignition switch on 1994 Cutlass Supreme?

Hello everyone,

My mom's car ('94 Cutlass Supreme SL 3.1L) won't start. From reading other posts, I have come to the conclusion that the problem is in the ignition switch/security key. I have used two different sets of keys, neither work. When you turn the key to the start position, nothing happens. The security light on the instrument panel continues to flash in the on position.

My question is this: How do I access the lock? I purchased an ignition lock set and would like to install it to see if that takes care of the problem. I removed the airbag and the steering wheel. I removed a yellow ring that was next in line. Now, I can't get the turn signal tree off. I see two screws behind this assembly, but there must be something else I need to remove first.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. She's stuck at a McDonald's parking lot right now. (The car, not my mom)

Thanks,
Sam

Re: Replace ignition switch on 1994 Cutlass Supreme?

Just an update: I bought a device that pushes down on the steering wheel lock plate so the lock ring could be removed. I removed the three screws holding the turn signal assembly and moved it to the side. There is a Torx screw holding the ignition switch in place. Sure enough, there was a broken wire going to the security sensor in the switch. Hope this helps others with the same problem. Sam
