Exclamation 65 Mustang C-4 Trans Problem

Greetings, all. The auto trans on my mustang is acting strangely. When she is cold, she shifts fine, very smooth and crisp. However, the longer I drive, the shift begins to drag out, like a manual whose clutch is going out. After an hour or so, if you come ot a stop, she just about won't get going.

Any ideas/suggestions? I am hoping to avoid a rebuild.

Re: 65 Mustang C-4 Trans Problem

Hi, If you havent allready come to the conclusion that the trans needs an overhaul and had it repaired,,,, Here's the reason why....The lip seals in the clutch packs and servos are by now very old and hard, SO..when the trans oil is cold the clutch pistons and servos hold the pressure due to the cold haevy oil,,NOW.. when the oil get's hot,,,You guessed it....SLIP CITY....Info from a retired trans tech....GOOD LUCK... Clay..

Thumbs up Re: 65 Mustang C-4 Trans Problem

Thanks for the info. In my heart I know your right. I was just hoping that there might be an alternative to a rebuild... maybe something cheaper. Looks like there's no way around it.

Again, thanks for the Reply. You're the reason this is a great community.

Shannon
