Brake job and CV boot rplacment

My 99 M 2.5 hit 69k and oil chge guy told me my brake pads are thin and both front inner cv boots are torn. He suggested I replace the entire axles as labor was the real cost and the grit and dust probably hat deteriorated the existing axle. He also noted the rotors were fine so there should not be a need for resurface. Nearby repair place quoted $300/side for cv work and $275/axle for brakes. Midas quoted me $150/side for cv work and 100 per axle for brakes. Seems like a huge difference...am I missing something?

Im primarily a driver so this is all damn near a foreing language.
