91 deville starting problem

My 91 deville has aquired an unusual problem I am told by my car mechanic, please help!! When you go to start it (not every time) it won't turn over, but all lights on dash etc. come on like normal, just won't start. Now the unusual thing is if you shut off key and wait approx. 6 minutes it will start just like nothing is wrong. This happens only once in a while but always starts. I was told maybe the ignition switch could be going bad (has chip in key). What is anyones thoughts and if this is what you all think it could be what kind of money am I looking at? I am mechanicley inclined and if key switch can be taken out and replaced easily please explain what to do. ANY OTHER THOUGHTS as to what this problem could be please send any advice my way I would appreciate it. Thanks, gadgetman56

Re: 91 deville starting problem

Well never received any replys so I went else where for my info and did find this to be a common problem and all that had to be done to eliminate it was to check chip with an ohm meter and buy a resister at Radio Shack for $0.25 to match resistance and install where 2 wires from switch connect under dash. Eliminates security key chip and only took me 10 minutes to do. Hope this helps someone else on this forum that would'nt get any reply on this same problem.
