Thanks for the scan

It was actually 106 that were built - the 107th was the spare chassis.

Also, the plan was to build 300 cars at 50 per year, for 6 years - not the 100 stated in the article.

Oh well - at least the man got some press.

Hey Erik, it would be nice if you write Car and Driver a letter-to-editor to let them know about the major errors (ie Murray being involved with the Atom, total of 100 McLarens planned to be built, etc). Who knows, your email might get published in next months issue. Go here for their contact info:

Can I just say thanks for the scan of that article. Although theres a few obvious mistakes it still makes for interesting reading.

I honestly cant see how McLaren can maintain high engineering values without someone as un-compromising as Murray in charge. I like the Ford GT, but its a completely different environment between Fords SVE (I think) and Mercedes and McLaren.

I think the best hope for a "baby" F1 will be if Gordon designs a car with his own company. Would be interesting as it woulf probably be far better than the Mercedes/McLaren P8 combination

The Ford GT is built and painted by Saleen; the drivetrain and interior are taken care of in Ford's Wixom plant in Michigan. Ford's Special Vehicle Team is aka SVT.
