99 suburban speakers cutting out

My mom is having a problem with the stereo in her 99 suburban. The speakers will cut out for a few seconds and come back on. I've taken the entire stereo out twice trying to figure it out, but it still does it. Can someone help?

Search this Suburban site for the word "speaker" that might help you find your problem. Dave

Any luck on resolution? I'm having the same issue, spend a few hundred $$ having the dealer chase a short, but that didn't fix it totally.

Hi,
could there be a thermal protection circuit in the amp?
How often and at what intervals does this occur?
Take care, Eggert

Here's what I've been able to figure out, but no resolution. It seems to occur more during the cold weather. Sometimes shutting a door can cause it to go out. It goes out sometimes for a few minutes, other times for days. There has been no set trend. SInce the weather has gotten warmer, it hasn't been occurring, so I may need to wait until winter time.

I did try switching the radio and got the same thing, which lead me to believe it could be some wiring issues.

Re: 99 suburban speakers cutting out

My '99 did the same thing.

Ended up being a screw that had fallen out shorting out the wires on the back speakers right over the doors....

Re: 99 suburban speakers cutting out

Most common thing is the wires in the door jamb break and short out.
