1994 BMW 740i drivetrain life

Hi I'm new to the forum. I'm interested in a 94 BMW 740i with about 140 thousand miles on it. My wife is concerned that that is too many miles.. I KNOW that for a BMW it's just getting warmed up if she has been cared for. My question is where can I get some hard data to satisfy my wife?(from Missouri!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Andy

Good Luck!

You are running a big risk on this one. Make sure you do it right, because your wife will hold this over your head for the rest of your life! Get used to the phrase "See, I told you". I love my car, it has 161K on it, and I'm sure I'll at least double that before I move to a 5 series, but it takes serious loads of cash to keep it going! The drivetrain is nearly indestructable, but there is much more to a car than it's drivetrain, and in the E32 much much more.

I bought my car with 99,500 miles on it & it was well maintained. In the 60K miles I've had it I have installed a new suspension system (yes, the whole thing), new steering linkages, new fuel pump, new cooling system, new stereo system, new intake gaskets ($500 w/ labor), fuel regulator, new cables for the throttle, cruise, & traction control, not to mention typical maintenance issues like belts, brake pads, & oil changes. I still have to do the leaking hydrolic hoses & valve cover gaskets.

It's worth it, but your wife will think she was right, & you'll never hear the end of it!

Also the 93, 94 and 95 V8s and V12s have problems with the Nikasil engine. I would not go near them unless they have proof that Alusil engine was installed.
