engine swap

hey, ur in the wrong group... you need camry, not tercel! lol but hey i'll help you out anywayz... first off

a 1998 camry is a whole different generation of engine...

your (i'm assuming) 1987 toyota camry is a 3S-FE engine, 4cyl, DOHC
2.0L approx 115 hp

your donor car (i'm assuming) ... now i'm not sure of the exact engine model, as i do not know... but i do know that the 4cyl they used in it that year was... but i know that it is a 2.2L, DOHC... *approx 150hp*

the camry has evolved quite a bit since 1987, and i don't know what exactly would be involved, but chances are... not only would you have to use the engine from the donor car, but also the transmisson, because it is highly unlikely that the 87's tranny (whether it be automatic or manual) will bolt up to the 1998's block. other problems include the location / configuration of motormounts... which is a problem when swapping engines into some toyota's.... the 98 probably has a different wiring harness than the 87, and that's a problem all in itself as well.

anything can be done with time, paitence and money...

oh, and about someone saying its a 22R... slap him upside the head.

the 22R, to my knowledge and research was never offered, in any car.
it is a giant hunk of iron, only used in pickups and 4-runners. 2.4L ... not even overhead cam... 80 or 90hp, but a decent amount of torque... but i don't think you could ever fit it in a car... but if you could, there's a decent amount of performance parts out there for it... and it could be quite a powerhouse.

get back with me if you want to know more
