i just installed a ebay cone air filter system and to my surprise the engien sound dramaticly changed! i now notice a drastic change in rpm ranges and other small changes.

have you guys noticed the same thing?

Re: air filters

It makes your car sound more aggressive, and if you have a TT, it makes turbo spool and the bov more audible...but as far as gains, it is only good for a few hp...nothing drastic.

They do help in getting the air flow going which helps the turbo models. Just the first in the line.

Re: air filters

what i meant is that the engien's rpm range seems to have gotten a bit higher. but im just looking forward to going to the track and check if the 1/4 mile times have changed.

what the hp gains are concerned i think it did not give me to much but i can still feel a differance and the tourqe gains i can realy feel as i was driving on the highway the car actualy was running lower rpm nubers on the same speed as i was driving to the garage (no it was not a hill it was a straight road)

well ya...sorta. a cone filter, aka open element air filter, allows your engine to breath easier, especially at higher rpms. oh, and you MIGHT gain 5hp, but that's liberal. don't waste a trip to the track just to test 1/4 mile times. the only time difference you'll see is if you have a TT car, or if in your NA you launch/shift better.

yup, if ya think about it...it makes sense too. with your new filter, you allow the engine to breath easier, that is it can suck in more air w/o having to work as hard. or you can look at it as for a given rpm, it will suck in more air than it would with the stock filter. so you might see a 100 rpm difference, but most likely its quite negligible.

but the cone filter is a great supporting mod for other upgrades like FI and fuel.
