1998 Transport NO HEAT!

I bought this Van used and when it first turned cold I was not happy! I took it to my local dealer as at the time it was still under warranty. I told them I figured the way it acted my heater core or evaporator was plugged up or something was not opening up etc because I had poor air flow. They removed my heater box filters, replaced the thermostat and said here ya go its as good as it gets. So we've put up with it over the years.


It has heat (vent temp 140)the problem is it has poot air flow out of the vents. On high the fan roars away so loud you can't hear the radio and it can barley keep the front window from frosting up! Heck sometimes in real cold weather -30 it can't keep the front window from frosting up!!

I was wondering if GM ever found a fix to this problem?? I've heard others complaining about poor heat also on this model. In the summer when hot out its has the same trouble with low air flow when your trying to stay cool.

I'm tempted to add an aux heater in it some how if the crappy factory one can't be improved any!!!

Have you checked the cabin filters located at the rear of your glove box. I changed mine and increased the air flow considerably.

I GOT MINE TO OPEN. My 97 TS is having the same issue. I did however go to the salvage yard yesterday and spend 2 hours removing the dash on a 1999 TS. This was just to figure how the system works. I did check other years 97-2004 by removing the panel just under the steering wheel and the soft cover under the glove box and HVAC systems looked the same. I'm sure it a vacuum problem. BUT I did get my FRONT DASH VENTS to open on my 1997 TS by removing the panel just under the steering column (not the soft cover above the gas and brake pedal but the one in front of your knees) and looking for the light blue and brown vacuum lines on the right side, that goes to a vacuum controlled switch arm behind the mode selector (NO need to remove the radio, mode selector and fan control dash cover). I just unhooked the brown one and the dash vent door opened. NOW the vents blows on all settings but the vent dampers do a good job closing them off. Ac works, Defrost works, and Floor vents works. It's not the perfect fix but it works for ME. I hope this helps someone who just wants them to open and gain comfort in their TS
