Oh No!

OH NO!

I'm in the market for a new car. I've test driven the 330ci and the 530i as well as the volvo c70 and s60.

I've been posting regularly in the bnw 3 series forum.

To date, the 330ci is what I've been set on, but being a practical person, I know that I should test drive all available options in that class and price range.

Lexus IS 300: No as sporty but has good horse (215) and torque (~210). Lots of features in the base model as well. Drives pretty nice but I still like the 330 better (unless I could get a huge deal).

Now onto the "Oh NO" portion.

2002 all new Audi A4 3.0 Quattro!

AGHGHGHGH

A little bigger than I'm looking for a car, but it doesnt drive like it! 220hp, 225 or so torque! Tiptronic controls have no lag, all wheel drive and esp is incredible for sharp turns at low and high speed.

Now I'm contemplating the 330 vs the A4. My BMW ideal is being put to the test and I need some reality checks.

Like any good salesman I got the full info with lots of big words and phrases.

Now its time to cut through the BS on the cars and get down to real opinions by people that matter, those who own and use the cars every day.

I'm posting this in the bmw area as well to see what people think.

Thanks in advance,

PCH

Forget asking ppl you don't know on the net when regarding several thousand dollars. Go out, test drive both of them, decide what you want and buy it.

if you are willing to fork out the cash for a new a4, buy a 00 or 01 s4 with more power and better handling and a stick... that'll eat the 330, so that is my suggestion... i have driven the reg and s4, go for an older s4, you'll be happier... trust me

The S4 is great but it sounds like your looking for something new. The BMW has a better shifter IMO but if your looking at a tiptronic than that point is mute. The BMW also has slightly more image appeal to the masses if that matters to you. However you can not beat Audi's AWD, when your in snow rain or ice you will simply fall in love with it. Also in dry conditions it does give you added stability. The Audi costs a bit less but the BMW has a greater mass market appeal. Either forum you post on will of course tell you how wonderful their particular car is so none of this will help you much. In the end they are both great cars in reliability, performance, resale, and looks. With all of those things being pretty much equal which one made your heart pump the fastest? Thats the one I would go with.

What are your needs? That's what matters when purchasing car anyways.

better factor in the resale

I've an '01 A4 1.8TQ, which I'm pretty happy with. I know, though, I'll lose a whole bunch of change whenever I get rid of it. The Audis are great cars, but don't seem to hold their value as well as others.

I would go with the new A4, anywise the 3 series is more likely to have a make over sooner than the A4 that was just released and it looks more solid, both are great cars though, just an opinion.
PS: You said you wanted to try everything from that price range, I would consider the domestic Chrysler 300M too
