Fuel pump sounding noisy on 90 cherokee
After driving for two hundred kilometres or more at one go (gotta get to the backwoods!!) I can hear the fuel pump whining away. After sitting for a couple hours it calms down but I need to know if it's on it's last legs. I don't really have any problems with it besides this....ok, not true, I want to change the cps for stalling reasons. But this thread is for the fuel pump. Do they just die or am I getting a warning with the whining?
Thanks. |

Jeep put a ballast resistor on the XJ to keep the noise down. Might check to see if yours has been bypassed. If it hasent and this is a recent problem you might be in for a fuel pump replacement.Yes they can go out all of a sudden. Had one go out on a Cavalier 2.8 left me stranded but was able to make it home by hitting the bottom of the gas tank while recyling the key on and off. Hope you dont have to go there.

Re: Fuel pump sounding noisy on 90 cherokee
Usually when they start to whine, their getting ready to go, Fords,Chevy's, and even BMW's all have experienced the same senario. If its making niose, CHANGE IT! Besides, better safe than sorry, especially if your in the backwoods when it goes.
