1996 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L V6 4x4--New Owner

I just purchased a 96 rodeo with only 26,800 miles on it, body in great shape, interior in great shape. One problem..last owner let it sit for about a year. When I received it I had to replace the fuel injectors, map sensor, oxygen sensors, throttle positioning sensor, have a tuneup performed. I have it running now, but I have noticed that it shifts hard, I was told that I might need to change my trans filter. I also can not get my front wipers to work, if I stick a fuse in they run constant, can not turn it off with the switch, the high and low works, but not the intermit. and my cruise control is on the same switch and it works fine, anybody having the same problem? Also, I was going to have a cd player installed in it, but when my brother cut the wires to my factory radio it cut my instrument panel lights and we were wondering if you can wire that up to the cd player. Also I am constantly having to fill my brake fluid up, my dad checked all my lines and he thinks that it is leaking in the master cylinder. Do you have to replace the whole thing, if it is only a bad seal or o-ring? If anybody has any sugg. please let me know. thanks

I'm not an expert on electrical but as for the leak master cylinder; You'll have to take it out. So ... you mine as well get it Rebuilt it shouldn't cost you too much.

Don't buy a new one!

If you've got somewhere's to do it you may be able to do it yourself. (depending on what tools you have access too)

Holy chmokes! I can see keepin the miles off a vehicle, but letting it sit totally for over a year, that's not good. And only 26K miles, that thing has sat for more than 98 percent of it's life up to this point.

That's actually sad for the previous owner to allow it to sit for that much of the time, it's not good to that extent. Which I'm sure you already know - I just couldn't fathom letting a perfectly good vehicle go to waste in that manner.

It sounds like you are very mechanically inclined, I'm sure that beauty now has a good home and will be driven at least 2-3 times a week - Isuzu's love to be driven and act up when they've sat too long, i.e. harsh tranny shifting.

Keep a good eye on all of your seals, i.e. rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, etc. It's very well possible they could've gotten dried out enough to maybe cause problems once you really start driving it.

Keep us posted on the progress. Oh, and get those tires off - if they're the same ones that it sat on, you could very well have balancing issues, as well as dry-rot and blow-out's!

Tires, too, like the engine, need to spin to keep themselves lubricated.

Forgot to add, it might do ya good to have that tranny flushed. I don't know if I'd worry about the filter, but definitely get that tranny flushed - along with the oil/filter, I'm sure you've already done that though.

Re: 1996 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L V6 4x4--New Owner

thanks, I know, as soon as the guy told me it sat for a year, I had the trans flushed, oil changed, tune-up done, then started replacing parts. I did put new tires on as well. My biggest problem now is the trans shifting hard and the front wipers acting screwy. I have to actually stop before it rains just to put the fuse in just so I can have my wipers, how lame is that. People just do not know how to take care of cars these days. Thanks for the insight.
