Intermittent A/c In 1998 Cutlass

The A/C is intermittent during hot weather. The green light goes off and on as well as compressor clutch. I can push on the control buttons and it comes back on but will go off again and come on by itself sometimes. After the interior of the car has cooled down, the A/C runs just fine. This only happens on really hot days when the interior temperature is around 120F degrees. Nothing wrong with compressor or clutch. This is an electrical problem in the control unit in the dashboard or one of the computer modules that control everything. I cannot find a loose connection anywhere on the circuit board. Has anyone experienced this sort of problem? I would appreciate a solution.

Re: Intermittent A/c In 1998 Cutlass

MAN, I just spent the night taking the dash apart for the same reason with the same result. Can't find any good reason for it, so if you get any answers to your question, PLEASE let me know. I will keep looking and trying to figure it out and I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Also, check the forums for the Chevy Malibu. They are the same car and there are LOTS of complaints about the A/C, and the generally talk about the "control unit", although they are vague on exactly what that is. I'm still looking, I'll let you know if I get anything solid.
