Engine hose question....
Hello all,
I have a question regarding braided hose line. I am building up the 1/12 scale McLaren Yardley and am needing to buy the braided hose line. I have seen some around on HLJ although there are several different sizes. I have attached a picture of the main area I am unsure of. In regards to building this kit what sizes do I need? ![]() If someone could enlighten me would be much appreciated. Also do I have to buy the metallic couplings separately or do most of you scratchbuild these? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards WRCfan |

Re: Engine hose question....
No answer for you there. But one extra question, does anybody know a place where to get those braided lines beside HLJ? Because they have been out of stock for some time now.

Re: Engine hose question....
Try Detail Master (US) , Media Mix hobby (Asia).
Also you can go to an electronics shop and get some very thin coaxial antenna cable and strip out the braided wire form there. There are also several ideas in different threads for substitute materials e.g guitar strings, roller blind cords. If you do soem searching you will be sure to find many ideas here. HTH EDIT: WRC the couplings are seperate from the hose. They come in various shapes and sizes.

Re: Engine hose question....
There's no way to tell looking at the pic. I might guess 1.5" dia., but that would be just a guess. My solution for this kind of problem is that I have several sizes of DetailMaster braided line (nasty stuff to work with- I glower at the unkempt bundles spread across my workbench, and they glower back....
), and I just pick the one that looks best sized. As for the fittings, machined aluminum ones are sold separately, but they're painfully expensive. I make my own out of styrene hex rod- if you search the How-to's, you'll find one covering this. How about next time, you post the pic instead of the thumbnail?

Re: Engine hose question....
I use imageshack as not everyone is fortunate enough to have high speed internet. Thus those wanting to view the photo can just click on the thumbnail link and the fullsize one will appear.
Thanks for your advice! Regards WRCfan |

Re: Engine hose question....
I'd guess closer to one inch myself, but again, it's just a guess.
That means you want a model size diameter of .080-.085 of an inch. .0833333 to be exact, assuming it is one inch in real life... - Mark |
