Re: Which is better BG sycroshift II or Redline Heavy duty gear oil?!?!

I believe John has changed his recomendation slightly again. Last I heard was Penzoil and Redline lighweight shockproof I can't keep up with it. I'll be running straight penzoil and hoping for the best, since my tranny is becoming harder and harder to shift fast. At least since I raised the rev limit to 8500 anyway. The lightweight sounds interesting though, since it will be more towards the thin penzoil and better for shifting.

I really wish there was a happy medium, or even better, "the best of both worlds." It's always a compromise with things like this, and this turns out to be a tough one. Shiftability which makes life easier, the car faster, and less chance of destroying synchros, or good shock protection to keep from breaking hard parts. Seems we just can't win.

Apples and Apples, when you think about it, it all comes down to personal preference. Everyone has their own pref. but that doesn't make any other product any worse.

I don't think that's true. If they were all the same and there was no difference, why would there even be different brands? That's like saying all BOVs are basically the same and none of them are any worse than the next one. But some are in fact better, and they are different. If Kevin and Shep say certain combinations are better then I'm gonna have to believe them. They wouldn't say something if there was nothing to back it up.

http://www.synlube.com/synthetic.htm

I encourage you to read all of it, it's a page on basically all you could want to know about synthetic lubricants.

Well that site does seem to have a lot of info, but they are trying to sell something after all. People trying to sell something never seem to be able to give accurate information.

Who cares, this thread is almost over 2 months old and he's probably purchased his choice by now.

But it's not all about the original poster. The discussion that comes after the original request/problem/question is satisfied/resolved/answered can still be very informative.

umm i use syrchromesh (pennzoil) sometimes Gm's version. but to be 100% honest syrchromesh alone is not enough to protect your internals on your transmission during summer time use, or for a transmission that is always being shifted at higher rpm's. Rite now in Philly its hot during the day and alot colder at night time, so i recommend useing 2 quarts sychromesh with 1/2 quart or how much ever it makes to top off your tranny with shock proff. make sure its around 75% sychromesh and 25% shock proff and you shouldnt have any worrys.
