For those who have quit smoking

I am trying to help my friend quit smoking and need some suggestions. I looked online at some like Final Smoke and Nicorete(or some shit like that). If you have quit smoking please tell me how you did it and if there were any side affects. If someone of you know anyone who did quit and how please feel free to post.

Re: For those who have quit smoking

Punch him in the nuts everytime he puts a cigarette near his mouth. Kick him in the nuts everytime he purchases a pack of cigs. If all else fails, just punch him and kick him in the nuts repeatedly until he coughs up a lung.

Or...no just go with my first plan. Yeah, that'll work.

It's a 12 step program where the first 11 don't mean shit.

It's all about will power.

NIcorette gum, The Patch, etc. can be helpful. They can make the transition easier, as you experience less severe withdrawl. You can make whatever helpful suggestions you want, but unless your friend is extremely motivated and determined to stop, they will not succeed in quitting, be it cold turkey or with some aid.

Re: For those who have quit smoking

Don't beat yourself up too much over it. Many people try repeatedly to quit without success. She must be very self-motivated, and she must have a strong reason to quit which she can lean on in difficult times. It's hard, I quit about 3 months ago. I tried the gum, and the patch, didn't really work for me. Then I just decided that I was done, and after a very tough first week, it slowly got easier.

Okay. I will print out the statistics showing that self motivation is all you need Haha. But seriously, i will try to talk to her. I was just wanting to know how many people tried the gum or patch with success.

OH, it's a she! Well, in that case, take post#2 and substitute the word nuts with cooter...

You can be go the sneaky/friendly way and play some jokes on her. If you ever get the chance, snag her pack of cigs and put some kind of nasty tasting substance on the tip of every single cig. I don't know, it really is about will power than anything though.

Yeah, just keep takin' them away from her anytime you see her with 'em. I quit on my own. But hitting can help too...

Re: For those who have quit smoking

I quit cold turkey after smoking for almost 12 years. It's just something the person has to want to do. My oldest brother was 40 having main artery surgery and I did not want to end up like that in 10 years. Every time she wants a cigarette she should walk or exercise. Think about it, replacing something that's bad for you with something that's good for you is a plus.

Re: For those who have quit smoking

Lifesavers...Everytime I felt the urge for a cig, I just popped a saver in and I lost the urge. I guess any kind of candy may do. I'd rather have cavities than cancer any day..
