Re: 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 935 with SMS detail set
OK
![]() I haven't been around much lately but I'll first try to answer a few questions Quote:
Quote:
http://pedetails.com/2/store_closed....N¤cy=usd On the engine block I used Tamiya acrylic paint mixed with micro-balloons for texture. Quote:
![]() I've had problems with the paint so what you see here is the third paint job Originally I painted the body then later painted the other parts which seemed a lot brighter. I used the same paint but the white was completely different. I have a friend who is a auto painter and he said that is quite common if you don't mix the paint well enough. I guess that was what I did. Anyway, after painting it again and messing the decals up, I stripped the paint and finally got a good result.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I still need to polish the paint and then assemble the whole thing before the weathering starts. One thing I did manage to do after the first strip was build the window sills. Now I can put the glass in last just like the real car with the seals on top. Once again, sorry for the lack of updates. See you soon!

Where's the "drooling" smiley when you need it?!

It's so good to see that Rob hasn't dropped off the face of the earth and that his amazing build is still progressing.

Excellent work Rob, the back end/engine area is just menacing. Especially with that turbo!

Rob,
this is a contribution for a technical museum. Or for a museum of fine arts. Or a motorsports museum. Or all of them. Killer. Absolutely amazing. Yours Jochen |

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 935 with SMS detail set
wow wow wow. i don't have words for a skill like this. If I could have a teacher for modeling, i would choose you
Big big respect. But I have also a question. How did you make these weld seams shown on page two of this WIP ? Perhaps you tell me/us how to do.Greets |

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 935 with SMS detail set
I love the window sills. Just like on a real car. Putting the window frames on the rubber gasket window moldings might be tricky. Great work.

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 935 with SMS detail set
The detail is amazing, could swear I was looking at the real thing, can't wait to see the finished result!
The bike photo is incredible as well, I can only hope to get to your level of detail work. |

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 935 with SMS detail set
Ooooooh...really nice spot on build!
![]() Good to see someone actually cut the rear windows apertures out properly at last! Such a simple mod but very effective as it makes the car look so different. I've done the same thing on my unfinished kit. Was going to cut black vinyl insulation tape into 1mm strips to use as the frame sealant. May be useful for you?

Re: 1/12 Tamiya Porsche 935 with SMS detail set
I just stumbled on this build today as I'm fairly new to the board. This is an absolutely amazing build. I would love to build this kit but I think that you hit the nail on the head about detail in this scale. If it's not done right, it looks cheap and toylike. I just don't have the skills to detail a build of this scale to satisfy my own tastes.
It is a real pleasure seeing this build and I hope to use some of your techniques in 1/24th, especially the lacquer dappling. I have been looking for something to achieve that look for a loonngg time. One more thing... you are a sick, sick person to work on this level of detail and the world needs a lot more of this sickness!!!!!!! Rob |
