Re: Very Rare Windstar Transmission Problem

Yes, a restart did correct it temporarily at first, but it kept getting worse.

PRNDL refers to the gears - Park Reverse Neutral Drive Low gear

TSS = Transmission Speed Sensor

Re: Very Rare Windstar Transmission Problem

Which of this parts is it:

http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,.../selectZip.htm

http://www.autozone.com/R,APP1001246...ductDetail.htm

http://www.autozone.com/R,APP211812/...ductDetail.htm

Could it be the Transaxle Range Switch????

Transmission/transaxle range sensor # F5DZ7F293BA $54.13

This dont have a part number for autozone.

We already changed a part called Transmission Speed Sensor Last week.

Re: Very Rare Windstar Transmission Problem

Its also called the Neutral Safety Switch. Autozone has it, as well as rockauto.com (look under the Electrical-Switch & Relay section - they even have a picture of it).

Re: Very Rare Windstar Transmission Problem

Hi!
There are at least 4 threads on this forum describing Windstars with similar symptoms - harsh 1>2 shifts only when warmed up, restarting the vehicle corrects the problem, and P1477 torque converter codes. Unfortunately none of them had a followup.
I'm in the same situation with my '98 GL 3.8L with 179k. The fluid is ready to be changed and I'm wondering whether to do that and/or replace the TRS or just put those dollars toward a rebuild or new(er) van???
Thanks in advance for your help! I have enjoyed reading the threads!
